491 ADVENTURES IN HOME LIVING (Beginning Level - 9-14 years old)
Project requirements: Learn to use good design principles in making simple changes in the furnishing or accessories in a room. Construct accessories or simple items to make more pleasing and practical living spaces in your home. Decide with your family what you will do. Meet with your family and advisor and plan each step. Decide when you will work on your project. Keep a record of the things you use. Include their cost, what you did, and how long it took. Judging requirements: Bring one or more items you made, records and "before and after" pictures. Be prepared to discuss project. Bring your book.
494 DESIGNING INTERIORS (Intermediate Level)
Project requirements: Plan your work considering your time and financial resources, as well as you and your family’s likes, dislikes, needs, wants, preferences, etc. Understand and apply the elements and principles of design in your work. Plan, arrange and decorate an area, room or other space using the design principles. Focus on one of these : walls & ceiling, floors, lighting, storage, windows, furniture or accessories. Keep accurate and complete records of your plans, your progress, and your final accomplishment. Keep records in this book and add additional pages if needed. Judging requirements: Bring one or more items you made, records and "before and after" pictures. Be prepared to discuss project. Bring your book.
495 YOUR FIRST HOME AWAY FROM HOME (Advanced Level – 15 years and older)
Project requirements: Complete the “Planning Your Project’ section of this book. Explore all four interest areas. Complete all of the activities within each interest area. Take part in two Learning Experiments. Become involved in at least two Leadership/Citizenship Activities. Judging requirements: Bring one or more items you made, records and "before and after" pictures. Prepare a portfolio or notebook of your anticipated plan for your decided housing situation and complete all records and worksheets on pages 20-23 of this book. Be prepared to discuss project.
